Water Maker Servicing

Complete peace of mind for your next trip over to Rotto
Servicing the water maker on your boat is important to ensure consistent operation of this critical piece of equipment, without impacting your planned trips. For a boat with moderate use throughout summer we typically recommend your system is serviced every 12 months. Outside of regular use there are a few other times when we recommend your water maker is serviced:
  • Prolonged periods of heavy use
  • System is slow to come to pressure
  • System is slow to fill tanks
  • Prior to an extended trip
  • Upon sale or purchase of a boat
Below are the items we typically check during a service.  Please note that there are a large range of water makers on the market, so specific items may vary from boat to boat.
  • Feed Pumps
  • High Pressure Pumps
  • Solenoids
  • Ball Valves
  • Sea water intake
  • Filters
  • Water quality and flow rate
  • Oils
  • Hoses and connections/clamps
  • All mounts & fittings

Preventative Maintenance

Proactive system management to avoid system failures and costly repairs
Preventative maintenance ensures water maker membranes and other components are protected during long periods of storage, and ensures your system is ready to go the next time it needs to be used.
It's not uncommon for boats to sit in the pen for 6 months or so with little to no use over winter.  For a period like this it’s good practice to clean and preserve the system to prevent contamination which can be caused by long term stagnation of sea water and the breakdown of living organisms within that water which leads to the sulphuric acid rotten egg smell. Some systems make it easier than others to clean, in most circumstances if needed, Desalworks can install a valve system to make cleaning a very short and painless exercise.
During this exercise, we’ll also have a look to see if theres anything that needs repairs or attention.  As this preventative maintenance usually happens towards the end of summer, it typically allows plenty of time to plan any repairs prior to the next summer.
Desalworks offers two Preventative Maintenance Services:
  • Pre-summer system check
  • Pre-winter shutdown

Water Maker Installations

Cost effective installations for new marine water maker systems
Our water maker installation service delivers the optimum install solution within your boat's space requirements, ensuring other components can be easily accessed and maintained.
With a huge range of water makers and vessel layouts, no two installs are exactly the same and the range of options for positioning can be daunting. Plenty of installs are completed with little regard to the service access of the water maker, and other components such as your generator and engine. This can create additional labour costs and general frustration during servicing or repairs.
Our installation process can cover all or just one of the below stages:
  • System selection to suit boat size and use requirements
  • Installation planning to suit space requirements
  • System installation
  • System commissioning
